Valentine’s Day is one of my favorites. I have no idea why, I’ve spent several of them single and without a date or card or chocolates…BUT I love the idea. I love that we have a day where we tell all of our friends and family that we love, like, appreciate them and let’s face it, we we need more of this. I know a lot of people chalk this holiday up as a Hallmark Holiday created to help boost businesses for cards, chocolates and expensive date-night dinners, but it doesn’t have to be just about that. For me, Valentine’s Day, (and Galentine’s Day – thank you Amy Poehler) gives me a reason, an excuse really, to slow down and spend time with those I truly need in my life, sure we can do that anytime during the year but do we? Do we stop and send cards out of the blue? I know I don’t, but I like this idea and maybe I will this year…
Have you ever fallen into a tradition and not know exactly how you got there? I’ve spent the past 8 Valentine’s Day the same way. My boyfriend-now-husband have done the exact same date-night-in every year and I absolutely love it. I make dinner, he makes chocolate covered strawberries, we end up on the couch in front of the TV. It’s just the best.
