Extra Cheesy Pizza Roll Pinwheels

Extra Cheesy Pizza Roll Pinwheels

Extra cheesy pizza roll pinwheels are the most delicious extra messy cheesy pizza rolls. Baked to perfection with crispy melted cheese squeezing out of the sides. It’s the pizza version of a cinnamon roll! Ideal for Friday movie nights.

It Starts with Pizza Dough

Make my homemade pizza dough that rises on the counter in an hour or grab some from the grocery store. If you buy from the grocery store, make sure to grab the dough ball in a bag you find near the deli or bakery.

The ideal pizza roll pinwheel will hold in the toppings, keep its shape and not be soggy. The trick to that is to use corn meal and olive oil. Sprinkle the counter with a little bit of corn meal before rolling out the pizza dough into about a 12 inch square.

Brush the rolled out pizza dough with olive oil. Adding olive oil before the pizza sauce keeps the dough from getting soggy. Works on regular pizzas too!

Pizza Roll Pinwheels Ingredients

We are keeping these simple. Once the pizza dough is rolled out and ready to go you will need:

We do not want to over-stuff the pizza rolls and I did not use vegetables because they tend to get watery when they bake.

Making the Pinwheels

Once the pizza dough is loaded with toppings, tightly roll it up into a log, like you would for cinnamon rolls. Using a pizza cutter, cut about 1/2 inch pinwheels from the log and place on a  cornmeal-sprinkled-prepared sheet pan. The pizza roll pinwheels should not be touching, leave space between each one.

Sprinkle the top with Italian seasoning and bake until they are perfect extra cheesy pizza roll pinwheels.
